Ok, I don't really get into politics that much, and usually don't care as much as I probably should. But this election and what people are saying has me a little disturbed. Regardless of who you voted for, Barack Obama IS our next president. There is NOTHING anybody can do to change it, so isn't it time to just accept it and start praying for our president and the changes he is going to make?
People who are calling Obama the Antichrist has me very upset. If Obama were in fact the Antichrist then why did God put him in office as our president? My cousin, Luke, said that Obama is not the Antichrist, and he isn't the Messiah either, he is just a person, a man, who was elected our president. And people need to relax. I believe this is God's timing, and he allowed Barack Obama to be put in office because HE has a plan, whether we know it or not. I just don't understand why we are to say these things about Obama when clearly this is God's timing for a democratic president to lead our country. So I will be praying for Barack Obama and his leadership, because it's what God has told us to do.
Also, this is AMERICA! We are living so much better than the majority of the rest of the world. Regardless of who our president is, we should be honored and privileged to be living in this wonderful country. My favorite thing thus far about turning 18 happened last week when I went into the polls and pressed my finger to the screen to cast my vote. It is such a great thing that we are allowed to voice our opinion and vote for our president. Last night watching the election results and then watching McCain and Obama's speeches made me even more proud to be an American. And to take part in and witness HUGE history, it's amazing! SO, I just have to say, for this wonderful wonderful country, show a little support for our president. And if you can't do that, then at least some respect. Obama at least deserves that for all his hard work and campaigning to get him to this point.
Romans 13:1-7 says this:
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will comment you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you own him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
My final thought is that, Obama needs America's prayers. This country can't be divided just because a democrat was elected president. So pray for Barack Obama, and our other leaders, and pray for America. Because this is God's timing and He does have a hand in this.

i am soooooo proud of you. your spirit is so beautiful and compassionate and you will continue to have so much to offer to this world.
i know God is smiling down on you. bask in His glow.
You go girl! You are right on target and expressed it quite eloquently.
I, too, hate the negative and ugly things some people are saying.
I had coffee last night with one of my special friends, my trainer. He was telling me that his mom had told him exactly what you said:
THIS WAS GOD'S TIMING!
I have made a personal vow to pray for Obama and his family daily.
Hi Dani,
Wow! This is so well-written. There are often sour grapes after such events, and especially so after such an momentous event. Your words are wise and timely and thoughtful and well-articulated.
There is a proper place for people to speak out, and there is an improper place. Respect given to the man himself, and the head of state, does not equal support for his actions or ideas or agenda. Any politician, leader, pastor, professor deserves proper respect, regardless if their followers think and believe their leader is terribly wrong.
Again, what you wrote is very good.

Thank you Dani for your courage and boldness to write so strongly (and, yes, eloquently!). I knew the moment that Obama was elected that I would have to pray for him, and obey the rest of God's word about authorities, as I have for each President. But we also know from God's word that he allows both good rulers and evil rulers to be established. I am glad that one of the priveleges of living in this country is that we can voice our disagreements, even with the established authorities. One can respect the office while they may not respect the person holding it. Yet, while I may not respect a person for what they stand for and their choices through their power, I can still be respectful to him/her. And I think that's key here. I, too, do not like hearing the continued smears on both sides and work hard to be careful to only remark on facts. Sadly this country was divided before this election--over the last election, when it was a Republican who was elected! And I pray those who disagree with Obama do not treat him and his supporters the way those who oppose Bush have treated him and his supporters. Yes, he has been elected our President and I think those who did not vote for him should turn their attention to making every effort to be respectful, honest, and constructive in their efforts to fight for change.
Thank you for sharing your heart, Danielle! The following verse is true of you and may it be for all of us: "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Tim. 1:7)
Love you much!
Aunt Karen
Great job, Dani. Have you ever thought about being apart of a debate team there at school? Your logic and reasoning do you credit. Dr. Del Tackett, author of the Truth Project from Focus on the Family, has a blog (http://deltackett.com/). He said in his Nov. 5 blog much of what you’ve put forth here. You might find it interesting reading.
I have certain reservations about this president, but he, as any American candidate would have had, has my devotion to prayer for him. Let’s hope and pray that he fulfills his mandate with grace and love of a true leader for this great nation. I have more written in an e-mail that I’ll send you shortly.
Yes, Barack Obama is our president (to be). We must accept that. It is our duty to honor and respect the man in that office. Romans 13: 1-7 certainly applies to us. I was raised in school to not even refer to the president by his first or last name alone, that it must always be preceded by “President . . .” or “Mr. President . . .” And so I do give him respect and will pray for him daily, but my prayers will be along the lines of asking the Lord to bless his decisions and reasoning that he may see what is the Will of God. May God bless America and President Barack Obama!
