Hi, this is Diana, Danielle's mom. We heard from Danielle last night (Tuesday) on of all things, Facebook chat. Her end of the internet connection kept cutting out so it was very choppy, but at least we heard from her and was able to ask her a question or two. Here is what the conversations looked like...
This is between Don and her. I was out at the store with Jake.
Danielle: DAD!!
Don: HEY! How r u?
Danielle: good, i was hoping to catch one of you on facebook
Don: I LOVE U AND MISS U
are u OK?
Mom isn't home right now
we have been worried about u. r u ok?
Danielle: the connection i'm on is VERY slow so if i don't write back very fast its because i'm not getting your messages very fast and or it kicked me off
Don: r u doing ok?
Danielle: i am ok. i am GREAT! besides having to say goodbye to all the children yesterday that we spent a week with. it was hard, but we are in kathmandu now until we leave on sunday
Don: u holding up ok? Had fun with the kids i see
Danielle: yeah, it was the best part of the trip. the trek was brutal in every way possible, physically and mentally and i got really homesick. but then spending a week with the kids made it all better
Don: thats good. were u able to go bungy jumping?
Danielle: nope. 4 of our team members are doing that today actually. not only was it expensive but the desire to do it kind of faded. i'd rather do it in america where its probably safer and stuff. plus its an all day thing and i didn't want to sit in the car ALL day to get there and back. its a bunch of different reasons but i'm ok with not going.
Don: thats good. so what r u guys doing between now and sunday?
Danielle: today is a free day/relax day. so thats why i'm on the internet, and the 5 of us who stayed behind will probably go out shopping and stuff in a bit. kathmandu is a way awesome city
Don: u taking lotsa pics?
how is the food?
Danielle: and then tomorrow and the next day we are going to visit another children's home and saturday we are going to church and spending the day with this local nepali guy and then sunday we are just debriefing and then flying home.
Don: that sounds fun
Danielle: yeah, i am taking A LOT of pictures and i do not like the food at all. haha. the amount of food i usually eat in one day back at home is the amount i probably have been eating in a weeks time. its been hard
Don: lol. sorry. grandma dear says hi (i was on the phone with her)
i am so anxious to see your pics
Danielle: oh! that reminds me. i was going to ask you to call her and see if she would maybe want to come see me at the airport on monday night during my layover because we have to leave security anyway to go from international to national and its a few hours layover
Don: she might want to do that. she has sarah with her for a week
i will ask her tomorrow and email u
mom, jake and hollee say hi and they love u. mom called me
Danielle: tell them hi and i love them too
Don: i will
Danielle: if grandma does decide she wants to come see me ask her if she could bring me some food (i'm not joking)
Don: a guillianos sandwich :-)
Danielle: i would take ANYTHING, even if its just a few mcdonalds cheeseburgers
Don: lol, ok
have u been sleeping ok?
Danielle: whatever is easy and convenient for her, but i would be SO SO SO greatful if she brought me some food
Don: i don't know if she will be able to go to the airport but i will ask her
have u been sleeping ok
Danielle: even if she doesnt bring food though, i would love to see her and sarah for a little bit
Don: cant u buy food at the airport
there is a mcd's
Danielle: if i have american money left
Don: so u haven't run out yet?
Danielle: if i get kicked off its because i ran out of time but i will go buy more and get back on just fyi
Don: was it cold treking?
Danielle: not yet. i have like 50 or so bucks left that i can exchange for rupees if i want it
so, if there are any movies you guys want me to buy, they are only like a buck over here so i can buy any if you think of any
Don: r u at an internet cafe
Danielle: no, i'm at the guesthouse/hotel we are staying at
Don: oh, but u have to pay for internet?
Danielle: it's like 50 cents for 30 minutes
but the internet is so slow
Don: so the trek was hard? was it cold? how was your breathing at that altitude?
i'm i am so happy to hear from u. it's been SO long...
mom is on her way home
I got home while Don and her were talking. This is between her and I.
Danielle: hi mom
Diana: i'm so happy to hear from you!!!
Danielle: nepali internet and computers dont like facebook and dont like me talking to 2 people at once.
Diana: that's too bad. you're doing okay? dad's reading me the conversation you two have been having. it's so good to hear from you, even if it is broken up.
Danielle: its so good to talk to you guys too! i have been waiting forever to check my e-mail which i haven't even done yet because i thought i would see if you guys were on fb first
Diana: we sent you emails too. so you don't like the food, huh? what time will you be at LAX?
Danielle: i think around 5 but you should check the itinerary
Diana: yah, i can do that. is it rainy there? have you been able to shower?
Danielle: lol yes we have been living quite luxurious lives actually which maggie and kevin say is not normal for missions, so lots of showers, and VERY VERY rainy and dads rain coat... (can't repeat what she said here).
Diana: lol. did you buy an umbrella?
Danielle: i dont know if you are getting any of my messages because on my end it says its not working
Diana: hmmm.. i'm still here. my last message was asking if you bought an umbrella.
Danielle: ok, nepal definitely isn't known for their fast internet...or fast anything for that matter. if you think of any movies that you want let me know because i can buy them for about a buck
Diana: nope, no movies. you can sign off if you want. check your emails and enjoy your day
Danielle: yeah my time on the intetnet will run out soon anyway and i have already gotten an hour
Diana: okay. i love you so much and i can't wait to see you, hug you and kiss you. xoxox
Danielle: i will call you when i get to LA, ok?
Diana: ok. enjoy your final days
Danielle: i will, i love you so much, and miss you so much!
Danielle: i dont know if dad got my last messages but tell everyone else i love them
Diana: ok. bye
Both conversations were broken many, many times but she kept getting back on. I can't tell you how much it meant to both Don and I to hear from her and to know that she's doing okay.

Fantastic dialog! Thank goodness for Internet, Facebook, blogs and the like. So happy to hear you're OK, Dani. Our prayers have been answered!
Yeah!!! It was soooo good to hear from her and about what's been happening.
Dani, we love you so much. Everyday Grandpa asks if we have heard from you. People at church ask me that too.
Our church would love to have you share some of your experiences if you are out here on a Sunday. Or a night perhaps!
Enjoy your last few days there. You will be able to eat all of your favortie foods when you get home. lol
